So I get this email from a couple living in Canada who were planning their wedding at Tinaroo Dam near Cairns in Far North Queensland. Immediately after reading Liz and Paul’s email, I scrambled a reply saying “I HAVE TO SHOOT YOUR WEDDING!”. You see, I’m a Cairns boy and I’ve spent many holidays and weekends hanging out at Tinaroo in my younger years. I find it strange that certain flavours never leave you and that’s certainly been the case with Far North Queensland… It’s entrenched in my blood and bubbles out when I least expect it. Back when I designed gardens I found I had a massive slant toward tropical plantings. For those that drop into the studio, you’ll see a variety of Gingers, Heliconias, Bamboos, Palms and Bromeliads. It’s not quite a tropical paradise but it’s on it’s way.
Now when it comes to my photography, I believe there’s something laid back about it. Relaxed. Not trying too hard. Earthy. Natural. All these sentiments describe the Far North as well as North Queenslanders in general.
Anyway, this is just a teaser so I can’t rabble on too long. In short, Liz and Paul’s wedding turned out to be a huge blast. I was totally in my element. This is despite crashing the car I was borrowing into Paul’s parents place… Which I’ll elaborate on a little later when I do the full post.
